Chapter 2

The whispers started the moment she walked into the cafeteria.

"Who is she?"

"I heard that she's staying with the Cullens—weird, right?"

"She looks like she could kill someone with a glance."

Star ignored them, choosing a seat at the Cullen table. Alice grinned at her. "You're causing quite the stir."

"I'm used to it," Star replied, picking at her untouched food. She thought of all the attention she used to get at her old school, and signed. She looked around the cafeteria, wondering if she has any chance of making friends here.

Across the room, a girl with messy brown hair and a perpetual look of bewilderment stared at her. Their eyes met, and Star gave a small nod.

The girl hesitated, then nodded back.

Edward, sitting beside her, stiffened.

There seems to be something between the girl and Edward, Star mused, but she didn't say anything.

Lunch time was soon over,

After discarding her leftovers with the Cullens,who all insisted that they were on a diet, therefore unable to finish their lunches,Star went for her next class, biology.

"Ah, you must be Miss Star, I'm Mr. Banner. I'm sorry to say that you have to sit by yourself, at that table. I would be you lab Partner, though."The teacher gave her a warm smile, Star returned the smile, and went to the seat Mr. Banner had pointed out for her. Soon the class started, Star watched the girl from lunch and Edward with interest as she dissected her frog flawlessly. They were talking with each other in a polite but strange way, as if both of them liked each other, but neither of them knew how to be around one another.

After class, Star went over to talk with the girl, ignoring Edward's frustrated look. "Hey, I'm Star, nice to meet you,"she smiled at the girl, and held out her hand. She gave her a shy smile, then shook her hand:"I'm Bella, glad to meet you." After finding out that they both have P.E.,the girls decided to go together. They chatted about their lives, and found that they have a lot in common. "Seriously? You have a room full of books? That's like, your own library! "Bella exclaimed excitedly as they walked into the gym."Yeah, I'll show you some pictures of it tomorrow.""Can't wait!" Seeing the happy expression on Bella's face, Star couldn't help thinking:"Maybe it'll be a great place to stay."
