After shopping with his mom for most of the day, Jax felt like he would pass out from boredom.

Up ahead, Jax saw a crowd surrounding a form lying on the cobblestoned floor. Frowning, Jax quickened his pace and started for the crowd, his mother close behind.

Jax pushed through the crowd, but froze when he saw the figure lying on the ground.

She was wearing a beige sweater, with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows, and military boots. One of the legs on her military green cargo pants was singed off. She was covered from head to toe in groot, and blood and burns covered her skin.

She looked like an outsider in her sweater and cargo pants from the gowns, suits, and capes of the people surrounding her. Jax frowned. No, not an outsider, she looked human.

Jax scoffed at the thought. Humans weren’t allowed in Eskyria, much less be able appear out of thin air from what he heard the crowd saying. Only demons could Jump - teleport from one place to another depending on what type of demon they were - and this girl definitely didn’t look like a demon.

His mother knelt beside the girl, her midnight purple gown poofing around her. Now that he was closer, Jax saw that the girl looked about his age, sixteen at most. His mother pushed a strand of the girl’s auburn hair off her face and checked her pulse.

The girl’s eyelashes fluttered but she didn’t open her eyes. His mother looked at Jax and said, “We need to take her to a medic.” Jax nodded and scooped the girl into his arms.

With the girl in tow, Jax and his mother made their way out of the crowd so they could Jump to the medic. Leaving the forgotten shopping bags behind.
