Review
I am writing a review of drama teachers directing a Midsummer Night's Dream. It is an interview between the director Marsha and the interviewer, Lindsay. All of the actors were students from K to year 12, and some of them were just amateurs, but others were getting serious. There were many things to work on for the play, but in the drama group, everyone was working together. Since it's not easy to do a play that is roughly 425 years old, the directors and the drama teachers had a lot of good ideas and good tips for the students when learning the play.
There was a lot to do for the play. Marsha did a good combination for who does what work from the designer set elements and backstage, and the artist did lighting design to a student costume designer designing a costume. She also creates a team of local professionals, in-house staff and students. Everyone’s main task is to make the play interesting for the audience, and the audience mostly consists of family, teachers and the school community. To make the play enjoyable, the director and drama teacher work on the spirit of the play.
It is not only about the drama but also about the sense of community. When working together, everybody needs to be engaged and bring contemporary elements to the play. They come together to give each other feedback when finishing a part of the play. Everyone gets new experiences when working with new people. Additionally, the actors communicate, collaborate, are creative and think critically when they have problems in the play. Additionally, the play was chosen based on what the students thought and what would be good for them.
Outside the help of group work, the students and teachers have a lot of tips for working on the play. The teacher talks a lot with the main characters, the 'four lovers'. The directors suggest the students work on the movements first, then work on the dialogue and the words, since Shakespeare's language is like a muscle, you know it after a few scenes or acts. The actors also make inferences and educated guesses when stuck. They work on the play by asking themselves questions, researching things they don't know and taking time to explore.
This drama group is an awesome team group. They contain a lot of teamwork and work to make use of what people are good at and compensate for what is not so good. It is perfect for a school drama group, and it is like a professional drama group. Midsummer Night's Dream is also a good play.
